PERSONAL NOTES

The Leica R7 is one of the best Leica you can get for your money. I have to admit that the design of this camera is very nice. The finder is very bright, easy to focus. The mechanics looks and feels solid, without being too heavy. There is a spot and matrix metering system which is pretty nice. I really like this camera, I think I am going to keep it and shoot with it from time to time. Even if its quite a lot of money on a shelf, I really like the bokeh that 50/2 gives.

The R6 has an all mechanical shutter, so it can run without batteries, but this R7 has an electronic shutter, so it needs batteries. But, you gain semi automatic modes, which I really like for many situations. You can still use manual mode, but I really like using the aperture priority and concentrate on my subject instead of calculating light all the time. It uses 2 LR44 batteries, which are cheap and easy to find. There is no autofocus system, but focussing is easy with that nice and bright focussing screen. For someone used to Leica rangefinders, the R6 is just a bit slower to focus, but being a SLR, you have no paralax, and you can use much longer lenses. I would recommend the Leica R7 to anyone who needs a good SLR that has all the mode you need. I feel that this camera will never die.

CONCLUSION

A Leica is a Leica, you get what you pay for.
