PERSONAL NOTES

I was always curious to try a Nikon rangefinder. The Nikon S2 has a nice bright finder, has good quality lenses, and is solidly built.

On the other hand, after experiencing it, I can say that the design is far from perfect. The focussing is really precise, but its very slow compaired to Leica. You can quickly focus by turning the lens, but you get resistance from the mechanism, or you can focus using your right index, it's very precise, very slow, and rough on your skin. It feels very similar to the old Contax design.

The other design flaw I found is the placement of the shutter button. It's not located where your index would naturally be, but far behind so you somewhat have to twist your finger to shoot, not really enjoyable.

The resulting images are quite nice, but for all the ease of use, Leica is still the king.

CONCLUSION

The Nikon rangefinders are nice, but for the price, go with a Leica, you wont regret it.
